REVIEW - Barry M Speedy Nail Paint 'Full Throttle' & 'Lap of Honour'

Barry M Speedy Nail Paint Full Throttle & Lap of Honour

Barry M nail polishes, you are officially my downfall.

I have hundreds of nail polishes (I got not one, but two different Ciate advent calendars in December - you do the maths), but I still find myself at the Barry M stand every time a new launch is announced.

When I heard about the new Speedy Nail Paint range I was excited - quick dry nail polish in pastel shades? Count me in. So when I popped into Boots today it was no surprise that I found two of the new range in my basket.

After a lot of deliberation I picked up the shades 'Full Throttle' and 'Lap of Honour'. The polishes usually retail at £3.99 but they're currently on promotion at two for £7 in both Boots and Superdrug stores in the UK.

Full Throttle is a pastel orange colour which wears very apricot against my skin tone. I usually wouldn't go for a yellowy / orange shade but it looked lovely in the bottle and I have nothing like it already. The more I look at it, the more I like it, but it's definitely a shade which would pop better against a darker skin.

Formula-wise I wasn't keen on this for the first two coats. Although the website says this is opaque in two, I went for three as the first two coats were so unforgiving on the nail it needed a third coat just to even everything out. I felt like it was concentrating so hard on drying quickly that it didn't really have that 'levelling out' stage that a good polish usually has and it seemed to accentuate every ridge and blemish on the nail. By coat three though, I'd managed to get it fairly even, and credit where it's due, this dries really quickly.

Aside from how quickly these dry, the other great thin about these polishes is the brush. It's a new one for Barry M - flat, wide and easy to manoeuvre. It reminds me a lot of the brush in the Bourjois 1 Seconde nail polishes which are great and really do help to speed up the nail painting process.

Lap of Honour is a really gorgeous heather grey / purple shade which is perfect for spring. Again, this dried really fast but strangely it had a different consistency to Full Throttle. This was a much runnier formula which I actually preferred as it helped to even out any ridges in the nail and made for an easier, more even coat. Again, in these pictures I'm wearing three coats of polish but you could definitely get away with just two of this one.

Both polishes also have a nice glossy finish to them - I'm not wearing any top coat in these.

Overall, like most Barry M nail paints, these are lovely quality and really are fast-drying so if that's what you're looking for, give them a go! You won't get much nicer polishes for the money.
