The Vegan Kind Subscription Box - May 2015 #TVK19

The Vegan Kind TVK19

May is a good month for subscription boxes. Not only does my monthly Vegan Kind box arrive, but so does my Vegan Kind beauty box which comes each quarter (you can read more about the last TVK Beauty Box in my post here and a full review of the latest box is coming soon.)

For those of you who haven't seen The Vegan Kind before, it's a monthly subscription box which typically contains five or six vegan-friendly products - everything from food, to health and beauty and even household items. You can read all of my previous posts about The Vegan Kind by clicking here.)

Here's what was inside May's box, TVK19!

Chika's Plantain Crisps Chilli

Chika's Chilli Plantain Crisps (RRP £1.39)

I've seen a few bloggers talking about these plantain crisps recently so I was excited to give these a try. If you've never tried plantain before, it's a bit like a cross between a potato and a ripe banana, (but in a good way.)

I like plantain and I like chilli so - unsurprisingly - I liked these. They're a nice change from a typical potato chip with a substantial crunch, a hint of sweetness from the plantain and a good kick of fire from the chilli. These, like their sweet banana cousins, are packed with potassium too, tasty and healthy!

Sarelle Vegan Dark Chocolate Bar

Sarelle Hazelnut & Dark Chocolate Cream Filled Wafer (RRP £0.75)

I actually got one of these in a Vegan Tuck Box a couple of weeks ago (full review of that here) and at the time of writing the post I hadn't tried this but the description led me to believe that it would be a bit like a Ferrero Rocher. I ate this the other night and that's exactly what it's like - a heavenly, creamy, chocolatey, wafery bar of goodness. After I'd finished it I instantly wished I had another one so I was so glad to see this in TVK19! So, so good.

Ecobamboo toothbrush

Ecobamboo toothbrush (RRP £4.00)

I think for most of us, veganism goes beyond just a diet - it's a lifestyle which extends to compassion for other living beings and for our planet, particularly once you realise just how much damage and destruction farming and agriculture can cause.

This bamboo toothbrush - including its plastic wrapping, bristles and box - is fully biodegradable, unlike a conventional plastic toothbrush which TVK tells us can take hundreds of years to decompose. Plus it's kinda pretty. I have to admit I don't use a manual brush every day (i.e. I use an electric brush, not that I don't brush my teeth...), but this will be perfect for taking on holiday where I might have ordinarily picked up a plastic brush and thrown it away before coming home.

Olivebranch Sun Dried Tomato Paste

Olive Branch Mezze Sundried Tomato Paste (RRP £2.99)

This stuff looks goooood, I love a good sun-dried tomato and I can't wait to spread this on a bagel with a handful of grated violife and whack it under the grill. There are so many different ways you could use this (some of which are helpfully listed on the jar) - and it's even an ingredient in this month's TVK free recipe card - Coconut and Berries' Vegan Pizza Potato Skins!

Olivebranch Sun Dried Tomato Paste

Full Stop Choc and Mint Fruit & Nut Bar

Good Full Stop Fruit and Nut based Mint Chocolate Bar (RRP £0.99)

This is one of those bars that sounds really indulgent and really healthy and, let's face it, isn't that just the best kind? Crushed dates, raisins, cashews, date syrup, dark Belgian chocolate, do I need to go on? I can't wait to try this as a cheeky afternoon snack at work.

Taking the Pea Sweet Chilli Salsa Peas

Taking the Pea Sweet Chilli Salsa (RRP £1.50)

These were another welcome sight in the TVK box. I have done a full review of these yummy little peas here and this sweet chilli flavour was one of my favourites. The only problem is they are so moreish! Once you open that packet there's no going back, you can't just have one or two, it's not happening.

All round another great box from The Vegan Kind - I've been subscribed for just over a year now and it's honestly one of the highlights of my month!

If you fancy subscribing yourself click here for all the deets. And just for the record, I pay for my subscription every month and I'm not being paid to write this, I just really like the boxes and think they're a great way of discovering a wide range of new vegan friendly products!
