The Vegan Kind Beauty Box May 2015

The Vegan Kind Beauty Box May 2015

Oh hi, have you missed me? This month has been crazy. With work and weddings and one thing after another, I literally haven't had a minute to sit down at this computer and just. Write.

I started this blog because I love to write and I love to try new things, and whilst I was trying all the new things, I had no time to tell anyone about them (other than my long-suffering fiance) so this post and the ones which will follow now everything's a bit calmer, is long overdue. Sorry. Thanks for sticking with me <3

Aside from the monthly box which I love so much, The Vegan Kind also offers a quarterly beauty box which ships in February, May, August and November. I quite like that the box is only every quarter as it gives you time to really use the contents before another box comes along. This is also good for my beauty drawers which are bursting at the seams.

Anyway, read on to see what was in May's box, TVKBeauty Box 3, and click here if you want to read all about what was in the last box back in February.

Sophyto Total Protection Serum

Sophyto Total Protection Serum (RRP £28.00)

This year I have made a concerted effort to up my skincare routine and, so far, it's been going pretty good. I ditched the humble face wipe for something a little more substantial, and have been strictly cleansing and moisturising twice a day.

Once I'd settled into a basic routine, I started to add in extras as and when I needed them - facial oils, chemical exfoliants and a splodge of Hydraluron for the really dry skin days (yes, Hydraluron is vegan!) - but I'd yet to invest in a serum.

Sophyto Total Protection Serum

Sophyto is just that - an antiaging serum with a whole host of claims on the box. Here's a bit of blurb which might explain it better than I ever could:

"Highly concentrated antioxidant replenishment that arms skin against environmental stressors, such as free radicals from UV rays and pollution.

"This hero product sports its trademark rich amber colour derived from its exceptional levels of Epigallocatechin gallates (EGCGs) from organic green tea and white tea."

Andrew and I often joke that we will have no oxidants left since we eat so many antioxidant containing foods, so smearing some on my face can't hurt, right?

I must say that the amber colour did confuse and terrify me at first, and without reading the box I thought this was some sort of tanning oil, but I'm happy to report that this does turn clear when you rub it in - see below.

Sophyto Total Protection Serum

I also love the high-end feel of the product, it comes in a frosted glass bottle with a pump which wins major brownie points from me.

This contains olive leaf, whole apple extract and organic red grapes, which give the product a kinda fruity smell. I haven't tried this on my face yet, so I'm not sure how long the scent will last on the skin, but on the back of my hand it's a bit like the smell of a Nak'd bar - like dates and raisins.

I'll be including this in my daily routine from tomorrow and may do a full review after a few weeks of use - watch this space.

Crazy Rumors HibisKiss

Crazy Rumors HibisKiss Tinted Lip Balm (RRP £4.75)

Along with dry skin I often suffer from dry lips and end up slathering on lip balm most days, so it's nice to have one with a bit of colour.

This Crazy Rumors HibisKiss lip balm comes in six shades - I got 'Sunset' which is a peachy red colour.

Crazy Rumors HibisKiss

The other great thing about this is it smells EXACTLY like Refreshers which is the ideal scent for a lip balm really. I've been using this pretty much every day since I got the box and I love it, it's a really flattering hint of colour which doesn't go patchy and it keeps my lips feeling nice and soft throughout the day, I'll definitely be picking up another few shades.

Greenfrog Botanic Botanical Bodywash Geranium & Peppermint

Greenfrog Botanic Geranium and Peppermint Body Wash (RRP £7.40)

There are two things in life you can never have too much of - popcorn and bodywash. Or something like that. This is the latter, and it smells lovely, it's got a really botanical scent, as the name might suggest, with a hint of zingy peppermint to wake up the senses.

The bodywash is SLS-free, paraben free and packed with organic ingredients (and something called 'soapberries' which sound freaking adorable.) It's also a really generously sized bottle so it looks like it's going to last a while.

Lunar Lights Harvest Moon

The Wild Witchery Lunar Lights Harvest Moon Highlighter (RRP £3.50)

Now this is exciting. I love discovering new brands and products that I've never seen before and this highlighter 'balm stick' is a total winner - it's things like this that make the TVK Beauty Box for me, hidden gems, you might call them.

Anyway, I don't use a highlighter every day but when I do I tend to go for a powder which is not as easy to pop in the handbag. THIS on the other hand is perfectly portable and easy to apply on the go - just swipe along the cheekbones and blend with your finger for a subtle hint of sheen.

Lunar Lights Harvest Moon Swatch

Perfectly sheer, not too glittery, not oily or sticky, just a really good product. And so affordable I can't even deal. Did I mention it also smells like chocolate? Yep. Heaven.

Zkin Honest Beauty

Zk'in Skincare Deluxe Sample Pack

I've had some Z'kin products before via NE Veggie socials (a social group for vegans and veggies up here in the North East - such lovely people, great deals on food and drinks and freebies - join for free here!) but I'm a bit of a sachet hooligan so I was thrilled at this little free extra. I LOVE sachets, there's something so handy about them for travelling or overnight stays and you get to try products out before you commit - perfect.

Anyway this was super good because there were four different products tucked away inside the card - a cream cleanser, a masque, a moisturiser and a serum - the whole shebang!

I'm really getting into organic skincare recently and Z'kin could be my new favourite - watch this space.

The Vegan Kind beauty box is £15 + P&P every three months. You can find out more and sign up here!

Anything take your fancy from the most recent box?
