Berlin Beauty - Douglas Naturals Cleansing Foam

Douglas Naturals Cleansing Foam

After much denial, I have finally accepted that my beloved Kat Von D Tattoo Eyeliner is running low. So before we headed to Berlin, I had a quick Google to find out if there's a Sephora store where I could stock up. I was pretty surprised to find out there isn't a Sephora in Berlin (but thankfully my sister is travelling the US during September so perhaps I'll strike lucky!)

Google reliably informed me that Berlin's answer to Sephora is a store called Douglas - not quite as well stocked as the almighty S, but still impressive enough to make me waste spend half an hour browsing. We visited the store in Mitte on Unter Den Linden which was over two floors and packed by the most helpful, multi-lingual staff I've ever encountered. Score one for Douglas.

Amongst the usual international drugstore brands like L'Oreal and Maybelline, I spotted 'Douglas Naturals', the store's own line. Usually things marketed as 'natural' are anything but (hello, chemicals and animal testing!), but I was really surprised to see that the Douglas Naturals line contained organic, natural ingredients and was marked as vegan!

The pump lid turns the liquid inside into a foam when dispensed, a really novel idea which also works in practice. I've used this to remove makeup and it does a pretty good job on everything but waterproof mascara (or the aforementioned eyeliner). Perhaps because rubbing foam into your eyes just feels so alien.

Alongside the organic Argan Oil, the cleanser contains organic ginger and green tea, which give it a lovely, clean scent. It's paraben free, free from animal products and cruelty free. My only gripe is that my skin did start to feel a bit dry and flaky after using this morning and night for about five days, but I'd also been outside more than usual, taken two flights, ate loads of junk food and skipped one or two glasses of water...

This set me back a very reasonable €9.99 for 150ml of product. Because it foams up I have a feeling it's going to last me a very long time, so it's pretty good value.

If you're not in Germany and you fancy picking one up online, you can find it on the Douglas website here. Shipping to the UK is a bargainous €4.95.

Have you ever shopped at Douglas?

  1. When first browsing daybeds, it isn't always clear what type of mattress you should use. Can you use a futon mattress on your daybed or the twin mattress your tween outgrew when she upgraded to a full size bed? The short answer is no and yes.Joseph Slattery
