The Vegan Kind Subscription Box September 2015 - TVK23

The Vegan Kind September 2015 TVK23

I'd read a lot of mixed reviews about this month's Vegan Kind box. Unfortunately I was a bit late getting mine this month since we were in Berlin, so by the time we got back home it had gone to the Post Office depot. No matter how hard I tried, it was impossible to avoid spoilers on Twitter, Instagram and Bloglovin', so I ended up just caving and reading reviews before I'd opened my box. Damn you, tempting social media! Here's what I made of it all.

InSpiral Smokin Coconut Pecks

InSpiral Smokin' Coconut Pecks

Ok, I hate to start on a negative but I really wasn't a fan of these. I think they were trying to be like coconut bacon? I don't know. But I wasn't on board. Andrew tried them and quite enjoyed them, but there's just no masking the taste of coconut, no matter how much paprika you coat it with.

If these flavours were on a potato chip I think they'd be really nice, but... it's coconut, you guys. Let's stop trying to make coconut bacon happen, IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Nothing But Strawberry and Banana

Nothing But Strawberry and Banana

Judging by the reviews I've read, these were another controversial item in this month's box, but I was really happy to see another Nothing But product as I've enjoyed the savoury snacks from previous boxes.

This is one of those products that's impressive in its simplicity - it's just freeze dried strawberries and bananas but it's so delicious! These are a bit like the freeze dried berries you get in cereals, but more flavourful and less 'seedy'. I really enjoyed these, and thought the bag was a nice size for a snack. Plus it's one of your five a day and only 34 calories for the whole bag!

Creative Nature Heavenly Cacao

I've not tried this Creative Nature bar yet but it sounds pretty good. 100% raw with no added sugars, the bar is cold pressed with raw cacao, Goji berries and cranberries. These bars are generally pretty good (apart from the tropical flavour which I really don't like), so I'm holding high hopes for this one.

Faith in Nature Coconut Shampoo

I LOVE receiving a beauty product in a TVK box - these are what make the boxes that little bit different and better value for me. A few people have mentioned that we've had a coconut FiN product not too long ago, but that's no bad thing in my opinion! These products smell incredible and work, what more could you ask for?

Designed2Eat Fudge Brownie

Apparently this is the UK's first paleo snack cake made from 100% natural ingredients. It's free from dairy, gluten, wheat, egg, soy, corn and added sugars. Despite all of that, they've managed to create a pretty tasty treat! The packaging said I could enjoy this 'guilt free' so I stuck it in the oven for a bit and added a great big whopping lump of guilt on the side in the form of a mini tub of Booja Booja Hunky Punky.

Not so guilt free now...

Nom Salted Maple Popcorn

Nom Salted Maple Popcorn (RRP £1.49)

I almost had a heart attack when I saw this in the bottom of the box. I LOVE Nom bars - they are, hand on heart, my favourite vegan snack bars. So when I heard they'd launched a range of popcorn I couldn't wait to try it! Unfortunately, in transit, this occurred:

Nom Salted Maple Popcorn

Oh cruel Royal Mail!!!! The popcorn was mostly packaging by the time I got to the bottom of the box, and what was left in the packet was soft and stale. Thankfully, TVK have kindly offered to send me another bag in my next box, so I really hope this lives up to the hype that I've built up entirely in my own head.

Iced Tg Green Tea - Mandarin and Ginseng

Iced Tg Green Tea - Mandarin and Ginseng

I was a bit dubious about this at first. I love green tea, but I wasn't sure if the flavour would translate well to an iced tea format. I was sent the mandarin and ginseng flavour which, thankfully, was delicious! It tasted like orange squash from my childhood, really refreshing and flavourful. I'd definitely pick this up again.

On the whole, this month's box had some really nice products. I don't think it's the best box I've ever had from TVK, nor do I think it's the worst. I know a lot of people said the value of this month's box was quite low, but for me these boxes are about trying new things, which I have done! What did you think of this month's box?
