The Vegan Kind Subscription Box - January 2016, #TVK27

The Vegan Kind Subscription Box January 2016 TVK27

Ok so first off, how is this box number 27 of The Vegan Kind? Where did the time go please? I've been a subscriber since about box 6 so it's crazy to me there have been 27 of these and I still look forward to receiving my box each month.

I have blogged many a time about these but they keep on introducing me to new vegan-friendly products and brands each month so I never get bored of them. Read on to find out what was in January's box...

Another good spread of products in this month's box and a nice way to start off the year - with some old favourites and some brand new products.

Vego Vegan Chocolate Bar

I've spoken of my love for these many times before, in my opinion they are the holy grail of vegan chocolate bars. Rich, decadent and indulgent, the Vego is the antithesis of everything you would expect 'vegan chocolate' to be. I have to hide this from everyone.

Squirrel Sisters Cacao Brownie (RRP £2.49)

Squirrel Sisters Cacao Brownie

Firstly, SQUIRREL SISTERS?! How adorable is this name please? And there's little squirrels all over the packaging! Win.

This little brownie is raw, vegan, gluten free and paleo, and each of the two portions in here are 82 calories for the perfect low-cal sweet treat.

I must admit from the outer packaging I was expecting a good wedge of brownie but instead there were two small 'sticks' of brownie in a little cardboard tray. I guess this is how they can be less than 90 calories! The brownie has quite a dry consistency and reminds me a bit of a Nak'd bar. The addition of Cacao nibs give it a nice crunch. Tasty!

Dr Organic Olive Oil Hand & Nail Cream (RRP £6.49)

Dr Organic Olive Oil Hand & Nail Cream

It's products like this which really raise the value of these boxes both in monetary terms and in my estimations. It's not often you get a full size bottle of a quality, organic skincare product in a subscription box other than The Vegan Kind. There's nothing worse than shelling out and getting a sample size which you could have probably wangled yourself for free! I go through hand cream like it's going out of style, so this will be taking pride of place on my desk at work when my hands need a little TLC.

Provamel Organic Rice Milk Coconut Drink (RRP £0.80)

Provamel Organic Rice Milk Coconut Drink

This month's TVK box had one of three different Provamel rice milk blends; chocolate, pineapple or coconut. I think I got the best one with coconut! You can drink this straight from the carton but I'm going to use this in my morning porridge for something a little different.

Teen VGN Recipe Book (RRP £1.50)

Teen VGN Recipe Book

This was an unexpected addition to this month's box! Each month the TVK box comes with a recipe card but this month there was a whole book of recipes courtesy of Teen VGN.

I really like what the Teen VGN girls do and this was a really well thought out little recipe book, with some basic recipes like smoothies and salads, and some more complex (but still do-able) dishes - there's even a recipe in here for vegan cheese!

The photography in here is really nice and it's clear the girls have put a lot of work into this little book. I can't wait to make those pancakes!

Snact Apple & Raspberry Fruit Jerky

Fruity snacks are always a winner for me and this apple and raspberry fruit jerky sounds right up my street. I'll be popping this in my handbag this week for an afternoon treat.

My favourite thing about this Snact jerky is that it's made with 'rejected' supermarket fruit which would have otherwise gone to waste for being too big, too small, the 'wrong shape' or otherwise surplus to requirements.

Soffles Rosemary & Thyme Pitta Chips

I was so excited about these Soffle's pitta chips. I've tried the chilli ones in a previous TVK box and rosemary and thyme is one of my favourite flavour combinations, so I had really high hopes.

Unfortunately, for me, there was something lacking with these. The flavour was nice but it was definitely missing a little kick from some garlic. Rosemary and thyme are too quite floral flavours, so I would have liked something a bit stronger to bring this back down to Earth. I really like the crunchy texture of these and the bag contains a generous helping, but I'd like a smidgen of garlic added to make them even better.

Veganuary Wristband

Unless you've been hiding under a rock you'll know that this month is Veganuary! A month in which people pledge to ditch animal products for four weeks and follow a plant-based diet.

It seems Veganuary is everywhere this year - which can only be a good thing - and this little wristband means you can even wear it on your body if you're so inclined.

Wristbands aren't really my thing (and the green isn't really my colour!) but I'm glad to see TVK supporting the movement. It can only get bigger and better from here - I really feel like 2016 is going to be a big year for veganism!
